We went to Israel from 4th December 2006 to 13th December 2006.

Anyone reading this, should really give Israel a shot. It's quite a travel destination, even if you're not Christian.

Married at last

Today we said our vows and promised to be there for each for the rest of lives.

After all the preparations, sweat and tears, through much work, we are finally one.

Finally.

On the behalf of May and myself, I'd like to thank everyone who has been there for us, supportive in every way possible. In no particular order; Soph and Dave, Apple and Chris, Merv and Fern, Jason and Tomoko, Ellery, Edision, Jijay, Shannon, Nicholas and Yuzhen, Cat and Est, Kelvin Phoon, Steph, my parents, my sisters Kerrie and Sabrina, her parents, my cousin Kevin, my aunt Shirley, her aunts Debbie, Yoko and Kat. And all those who have given generously their hearts, love and warmest wishes in all forms, big and small. Thank you all.

Oh just a bit more before we can say the renovation is fully concluded. Just a bit more.

Yesterday, I turned 26 and what a way to spend an evening of your birthday to clean your home. I was proud doing so. Never felt so accomplished and glad about housework. I hope this enthusiasm keeps up. I know how housework and I were never really fully acquainted in the first place.

But nonetheless, the house is almost ready. We're staring at 4 deliveries coming in this Saturday. And a lone one coming next Monday from BarangBarang.

A couple more things to do when it comes to wedding preparations. Choosing the march-in/out music for the ceremony-proper. Selecting pictures for our album (Yes, that's not done yet! *shock horror*). Rehearsal next monday at 7pm. Arranging the guest seating arrangements. Finalizing the numbers. These are amongst some of the handful of things that are of immediate concern.

Phew. That's like a mouthful.

16 days people. And I feel a gazillion butterflies already.

Progress update

Well, we're sitting pretty now at 40 days.

Can't say I'm not excited. I am really happy with the progress we made so far, but we have some more things that we have to do along the way. Nonetheless, so far so good.

We bought a number of household items, name it, cutlery, plates, fridge, washing machine. We spent quite a sizable amount of cash already, I forsee some more spending before we can settle in totally. All the little knickknacks.

Oh yes, Chinese customs are just soooooooooooo wayang... You'd know what I mean if you've been through it.

Incoming miracles

Anyone getting married would know the cost involved or at least have a hint of what the "damages" are.

In any case, faith is often put to the test here. Do you dare to imagine the cost of putting a house together, the renovations, the furnishings, the cost of the wedding itself, photography, her gown etc? Everything costs something.

I dare to be honest here and say that our bank account was starting to look dreadfully low in funds and there was the need to get a reno loan done as well. Thinking about the interest alone puts me off. Basically, both May and I agreed mutually that we wouldn't ask our parents for money. We find it hard to even open our mouths too.

But the first miracle came earlier this month when her mom suggest to loan us whatever monies we need to renovate the house! 2nd miracle was my dad was agreeable to loan me another smaller amount initially for the renovations but now used for furnishing our house! With that, the renovation issue has become much easier on us and our pockets. Thanks be to God.

And the most recent miracle; May's grandmothers decided to bless us with a sum of money. And quite a substantial amount too!

Such is the beauty of these gifts when you least expect it... I'm touched, really I am. And quite lost for words to express gratitude to these people, and God.

All this happening even before our wedding day. Amazing grace really. (And a great feeling that there is more to come up to the day and beyond)

Renovations - So it begins

And today, the electrician will come to the house to tear out the old wiring.

Plastering will begin the day after.

And from what Xeon tells me, the whole renovation process will take a grand total of 1 month beginning from today onwards.

Can't hardly wait.

Will soon post the pics of the old place here soon.

Outdoor photoshoot

I never realised how exhausting a photoshoot could be. Makeup and hairstyling started at 8.30am. We got home at 8.30pm.

Three changes: wedding gown, evening gown, tea dress.

Five locations: Botanic Gardens, the railway track, Zouk, Pan Pacific Hotel, and a kelong. Looks like the pics will turn out amazing. Can't hardly wait!! :)

Collection of suit and shirts

Was at Personality last evening. Trying out the unfinished suit for size. The fit and color is good.

The long and tedious process was actually choosing the right fabric for the shirts.

I believe Eric at Personality will do a job of the shirts. 2 dark colors and 1 light. Now, I need to go look for cuff-links. Hmmmm...

Home Owners We Are

A couple of days ago, we collected the keys to our new place.

And on the same day we had Xeon (one of the interior designers) take a look at it.

We hope to get good quotes and prices for the upcoming renovations to our humble abode.

The previous owner, Mr Ho, was nice enough to waive off the property tax he paid up for the remainder of the year. Not much, but a cool gesture nonetheless.

Praise God. All will be fine. :)

Speedy processes

I'm trying to take stock of the whole housing event right now. Realised how quickly some of these things are settled as we speak.

The span of time between deciding on the house, the first appointment and now the 2nd appointment has not been longer than 5 months.

Tonight we're going to look up Nicholas' friend's place. See if the designer could fulfil our needs in doing up our interiors.

Note to us: 3rd counselling session with Pastor Henry come Sunday after 3rd service.

HDB has posted a date for us to meet for the 2nd appointment on the 8th of February, 1530hrs.

Awesome... Now we're ever more closer to having a place to call our own.

Shoe shopping

You would expect May to fill in this one, but no, it's me :)

Well, we wanted something nice and value for money. All this happened over the last weekend, a Saturday afternoon. We did find something that we all agree that looked good at the 2nd shop we went to. Malebox. About 120 bucks it was. But having May and her good friend in tow means that we have to walk through the full gamut of shops in the Orchard Road area with my achy back. I would have done my shopping in, what would have been a short and sharp, one hour but it took us about 3 hours to do so. Of course with a break in between.

And we went back to the 2nd shop to get the first pair of shoes that we agreed that looked more than just 'nice'.

The Suit

Just last weekend, on Saturday, we went down to Personality Tailors to get my suit measurements. Mr Eric Chia, the owner of the shop, was, to say the least, very busy with the handful of customers that was already gathered in the small confines of the place.

After patiently waiting for no less than 30 minutes or so, he finally talked to us about the materials and designs. Of which, there wasn't too many colors we could choose from, we picked a deep midnight blue color for my suit, which would only look like a tinge of blue only in bright white light, otherwise in darker settings would seem black.

We might have him tailor my shirts as well, for he did seem to be more than knowledgable. For tailoring clothes, this would have to be the first. I have nothing that's made to measure, most things I have came straight off the rack. It's quite convenient when my dimensions fit common sizes.

Nonetheless, the first fitting for the suit will either by on the 15th or 16th. Will have to call him first before I go down.

On another note, a few weeks ago we met Kelvin Koh and talked about the photoshoot. He said we'll try to cover as many locations as we can during the day. He's style so far has been that of flexibility. He tries his best to make us feel comfortable and not inconvenienced. So far, we're rather happy with his level of service.

Ronn has yet to come back from her long holiday abroad. She'll be back 20th Jan.

End of 1st Appointment

We concluded our first appointment with HDB today, paying off the cash portion of the house, getting the housing grant settled and paying off half of the commission owed to Uncle Pete.

Phew, what a way to start off the new year; thing is we might be getting our keys to the place in the middle of next month.

So things to do (for myself) the next few weeks:
getting my suit tailored,
getting quotes for the renovation works,
getting a renovation loan done.

Kelvin Koh meeting part deux

Ok... We didn't get to meet over the last weekend because his long time mate just got back from Melbourne and they've not met in years, apart from that, he's running around like headless chicken.

So therefore, meeting has thus been postponed to 27th Dec, 3pm. Meeting to be confirmed over the weekend by him.

First fitting

Ronn came to my home for my first fitting today. Stephanie was here too, she'd come for dinner and also to give us our Christmas gifts. Of course, Kevin was also here.

Stephanie was very excited over my evening gown as it was more complete than the wedding gown and Ronn brought the laces she planned to sew on, so we could imagine how the the final gown would look like. The shoulder straps and some other mesh details on the bodice and back of the wedding gown needed adjustment, so it didn't fit perfectly.

Unfortunately Kevin was unceremoniously shooed out of my bedroom as I was trying on the gowns as my mom suddenly recalled some tradition (that she has never mentioned previously) that the groom cannot see the bride in her wedding gown before the wedding day. I reminded my mom that he'll get to see it anyway during the photo shoot, and she said that was "different". What utter rubbish. All this carrying-on just goes to show my suspicion that mothers can drag archiac customs and traditions out of the ancestral memory when their daughters are about to be married, torturing the younger generation with strange and unusual rites and rituals that must be adhered to, otherwise we will displease the gods we will unravel the fabric of the universe?? Whatever. Ha ha. I have no doubt by the time I am a mother seeing her child getting married, I will also be imbued with the ability to acess this Ancestral Memory of Lithurgies and Ethics (A.M.O.L.E.).

Ronn reminded me to get my wedding shoes ready for the next fitting so she will know how long the gown needs to be and advised that I wear 2 - 2�" heel for the best elegant effect. Also that Kevin needs to go to the tailor this month or next month to get his suit made and any colour would be fine, even light colour.

Ronn will be away from 1 - 20 January 2006, and will contact us when she's back, otherwise we can ring her after 20 Jan. She will be checking her email, so we can email her and send her a text message saying we sent her an email, and she will check it.

A Kelvin Koh Meeting

One scheduled for this Saturday with Kelvin Koh this coming weekend, the 17th. We're going to be talking about our outdoor shoot with him and hopefully negotiate a good price. Oh yes, Ronn did mention that she wouldn't mind coming along with us when we're doing our shoot outdoors.

So, 5pm. Have to confirm time and venue again.
